rex + hill

August has come and almost gone. It hasn’t been quite so hot the last few weeks, which the the only reason I haven’t been gloating about summer more often to you all. We’ve had (relatively) quite a bit of rain for the last 3 weeks on and off which has brought the temperature down somewhat, but yesterday afternoon I was delighted to discover that the sea is still lovely for a swim, despite it not being quite so stifling.

The nest couple of moths are shaping up to be very exciting. My birthday is next week and then we are looking forward to meting mum and dad in Switzerland on the 25th September, followed by 5 days in Barcelona together. I’ll be working for that time but will still have the mornings at leisure. Mum and dad then head off for a whirlwind Spain/ Portugal/Morocco tour, then we all reconvene in Istanbul for 2 weeks in Toikey…that’s turkey if you say it with a funny high pitched voice. Don’t ask.

After Turkey, we’re pleased to announce that Alex and I are coming home for 3 weeks over xmas!!! We arrive on December 14th and leave Sydney on Jan 06th for 8 days in Thailand on our way back to Barca. Its costing a bloody fortune but we both would like to see everyone again and the journey is worth it for that and a taste of summer when it will be beyond freezing here. So, mark those dates in your diaries!

Apart from that things here have been pretty good. Our ex-flatemate Edu is now our ex-ex-flatemate since he moved in with us 3 weeks ago. We’re very please to have him back for his antics, delicious Preuvian cooking and of course having someone around to correct our Spanish.

Our classes with Lucas in the house are going well. We’re progressing quite a bit and Im finding the more I learn the easier it becomes to learn something else. Im confidant now that all I’m lacking is practice and that there will be a day when Ill be yapping away in Spanish and suddenly realise I’ve become fluent. Its a couple of months away but nevertheless it does feel good to know it *will* happen, instead of *might* happen…

What else? Yes! We’ve taken to downloading some Ozz TV! Funny the things that you miss when you’re away….we’ve started with The Chasers War on everything, Media Watch and…Im almost ashamed to admit- Australian Idol. Yes I know, sad isn’t it? Ah well…

Im suffering a bit of a backache that I first felt about a week ago. It seems to be one of those things that comes and goes and is at it’s worst when I’m sitting in a chair. Very annoying. Think Im going to have to go on a bit of a Nurofen bender to try and let is unknot itself this coming week. This morning I tried to re-register our address so that I could go down and sign on with the local medical centre and go and see a doctor, but wouldn’t you know it, all government institutions are on holidays for the entirety of August! Gotta love that Spanish lifestyle..
